We have mixed feelings about Hotel Birillo.
On the one hand, the hotel is located perfectly in La Spezia. Everything is within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and spoke English fluently.
On the other hand, the bathroom was tiny and in quite bad shape. The shower head kept falling off and the toilet flushed irregularly. What's worst, the bathroom had no window or ventilation. Mold was building up between the tiles and behind the water reservoir.
Also, the walls and doors are paper thin. Therefore, our room was noisy during day and night time. We could hear everything happening inside the rooms on the floor and could even understand individual dialogues.
We could've dealt with the minor inconveniences, but the mold is a health concern and unacceptable for 130€ per night.
Everything was perfect!! The rooms was beautiful and very clean, the breakfast was absolutely amazing! and the personel was kind, friendly and helpful :) I will be back to La Spezia, for sure, and I will stay here again.

AVOID if you find somewhere else to stay in La Spezia. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. 10min walking to the train station and 5min to the pedestrian street.
The rest is bad: the room and bathroom are small, the towels smell like mold, the beds are uncomfortable, the entrance of the hotel smell bad as well, the breakfast isn't good (coffee is cold, yoghurts are warm, biscuits are expired etc.)
I have to admit that people at the reception were really nice and polite.
Extremely small bedrooms even smaller bathrooms. It was clean and staff was nice but definitely not worth the money. The location is central but not in a very attractive road. WiFi didn’t work and tv had limited options.
Great location and price. The host is very helpful and breakfast was very good. The rooms are in the smaller side, but clean and comfortable.
They pushed two beds pushed together to make a queen bed but it was not very comfortable. The walls were thin and they did not have adapters to borrow. However the location was good.
